Hang on to the fin of the Whale (Docker) for easy local development environments: Docksal for beginners
Whether you are a lone web developer or part of a team, one of the biggest hassles is often just getting your development environment set up so that you can start helping out on a project. Options on how to setup a local web development environment have grown in numbers and types. Making sure that everyone on a team has the correct programs installed with the correct version can eat up a lot of a project's time.
In this session we will go over the basics of how to use Docksal and its tool fin to manage your local development environments using Docker.
We will also look at:
- how to install Docksal
- how to to speed up on-boarding of other web developers to a project
- how to quickly share your local development environment with others.
- how to use addons to add services and tools to a project.
- basic customisations you can make to aid you in speeding up your development processes
The Docksal command fin is a command line tool but do not let that scare you away. fin is a powerful tool that will help you master using Docker based local web development environments.
